Jocotoco Foundation
Fundación Jocotoco is an Ecuadorian organisation established to protect land of critical importance to the conservation of Ecuador's avifauna and associated biodiveristy. The Fundación achieves this by purchasing lands and managing them as private ecological reserves. To date, Fundación Jocotoco has established six reserves protecting over 6,000 ha. While the Reserves are primarily established to protect habitat for endangered birds, many other plants and animals are protected as well. The Fundación's reserves are home to over 600 species of birds, of which approximately 90 are range-restricted or endemic species, and 30 are globally endangered species. They are also home to several species of large mammals such as the Spectacled Bear, Mountain and Baird's Tapir, Puma, and Jaguars. It is important to mention that Lelis and Xavier have been involved as active members of the Foundation.
